When you’re communicating with someone, whether it's in person or in a video promoting your products or doing a presentation, you are developing a relationship and relationships involve people connecting. Good relationships require clarity.
Miscommunication leads to missed opportunities and misunderstandings. Those are only cute in romcoms. They cause real problems in real life.
The same goes for business relationships. When you are working with someone on a business deal, you need to be clear on what you have to offer and what you want to gain before that venture has any chance of success.
You’ll notice the common denominator in both of these situations is that they are all relationships.
And all relationship success hinges on good, effective, clear communication. For the purposes of our conversation let’s assume we’re talking about communication between two people.
Communication involves words and body language and what they convey about you and your desired outcome. What you want from them and what you can offer them and why they should be interested and become invested in their relationship with you.
If you don’t know what you’re trying to say they surely won’t. No one is a mind reader. (Now, if you are… we need to talk because I’ve got to see this. Until then, let’s carry on as if.)
One of the main problems with you not taking the time to get clear on what you want to say is that it can make you come across as unorganized, unsure and unreliable— traits no one wants in a partner, of any kind.
